On Rockfish Charters we cater to families and novice fisherman, as well as the 'hardcore' fisherman. We are a full-time 6 man charter boat that brings a level of professionalism and consistency that is unmatched in our area. We specialize in live bunker trophy striped bass fishing. On these trips, limit catches of striped bass from 20lbs to 40lbs is common. At certain times of the year you have a chance at 50lb+ fish!!! The bulk of our live line trips are done from April 15th thru the end of July. We start each trip cast netting our bait (usually bunker). We are in a central Brooklyn location for striper fishing, and fish several bodies of water at any given time. Raritan bay, Sheepshead Bay, Jamaica Bay, Ambrose channel, Sandy Hook, Breezy point, Coney Island, Lower Manhattan including East + Hudson River, and open Atlantic Ocean are all areas that we fish through the season. These areas are commonly referred to as the NY Bight.

As we progress into the summer months we target bottom dwelling species like Fluke, Seabass, and Porgy. This is great fishing for the family or the impatient fisherman because you will catch many during a typical charter. We provide lighter spinning equipment with braided line for increased sensitivity. From late July though September in Sheepshead Bay we still catch Striped Bass, but limit these trips strictly to night fishing. When the water warms, night chunking and live eel trips produce the best results for striped bass.

When fall approaches and the water cools, many striped bass will move back into our area. We target them in the day using a variety of techniques including live bunker, clam, casting lures, and trolling. Once again, limit catches of 20lbs to 40lbs are common. We also start fishing for blackfish which begins on Oct 1st. Black fishing gets progressively better as the water gets colder into November and December. Blackfish are a challenging fish to catch, but can be quite rewarding once you master the technique, not to mention that it is one of the most delicious inshore fish to eat. On December 14 fishing regulations require us to shut down for the winter. We resume on April 15th of the following season for the beginning of the NY Striped Bass Season. Many of our fishing charters reserve months in advance, so you can never reserve too early. We are based in Sheepshead Bay Brooklyn.
